MARINE AQUARIUM @ KOVALAM

 It is located in between kovalam and vizhinjam. This place must be visited by those who visit the kovalam beach. This aquarium is treasures of marine wealth. Lion fish , Star fish ,turtle , shark etc are present at the marine Aquarium.

           Located near to the Kovalam junction. Marine Aquarium is properly located at the junction named "theater junction" which is situated on the way to Vizhinjam from the Kovalam junction.

BALARAMAPUAM


    Balaramapuram is a village well known for handloom textiles. Balaramapuram is famous as the centre for the production of traditional varieties of handloom textiles. It is consider as the second largest market hub in Trivandrum.

Location
            Balaramapuram is located on NH 47 south of the Trivandrum. It is about 13 km from the Trivandrum city. Nearest tourist places located near to it are kovalam, neyyantinkara and neyyar dam. Balaramapuram is a well developed area.

History

                     Maharaja Balaramavarma who first introduced handloom weaving at Balaramapuram. The Delava of Maharaja brought seven weaver families Shaliyar from Tamilnadu to produce fabrics for the members of the royal family and made them settle at Balaramapuram in a separate location now called "Shaliar Street". Market places were opened at convenient locations to make the marketing of products easier. The present residents of the street are the descendents of these seven families.  Shaliyar is communities who speak Tamil and marry within their community.

Hand loom shops

There are many shops of handloom around balaramapuram and its neighboring villages too. Main shop are found at the shaliar street. Government owned shops are Hantex showroom also presented on the sides of NH 47. Government rebates are available at the period of festivals.

All round

            They are many other shops, school, hotel,petrol pump, police station etc on the road side. SPR and Suray hotel are well known.their is 24 hr a hotel at junction named sahab hotel. Auto and taxi stand are at vizhinaj and kattakada road.

AKKULAM




Akkulam is located about 10 km from the Trivandrum city, and 7km from the international airport.

Akkulam is one of the main tourist place of Trivandrum.The spot is developed on the banks of Akulam Lake, which is an extension of the Veli Lake. It is well known for backwater Tourism.Akkulam Lake is an extension of the Veli Lake, where we can see the backwater join with the sea. The calm and serene atmosphere and its natural beauty make the akkulam as a famous tourist place. It consists of a beautiful children park and a well developed swimming pool. There is a separate swimming pool for adults.
Swimming suit is at the pool compulsory. The Children’s Park is a unique amusement spot and has several new rides that have been included recently.

The international convention centre, which will be the largest in Kerala is under construction in Akkulam.

Kovalam











                     Kovalam is famous tourist place in the India. Kovalam is a beach town on the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala. It is located around 13 km from the down town of Trivandrum. Kovalam is also known as “paradise of the south”.
                     Kovalam is extremely popular among westerners due to shallow waters and low tidal waves and ayurveda treatments. It is also one of the oldest tourist enclave in India, which known among tourist circuit right in 1930s.A massive rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing. The India Tourism Development Corporation had developed Kovalam as an integrated seaside resort which includes a string of cottages, the Halcyon castle, a shopping area, swimming pools, yoga centre, facilities for medicinal oil bath and massage and the Rajiv Gandhi Convention Centre with 1000 delegate capacity.

BEACHES

                         In kovalam there are about three beaches known in many names but often known as   Lighthouse Beach, Hawah Beach, Samudra Beach. Among this Lighthouse Beach is the one most popular, which is located at southernmost beach. The southernmost, known as the Lighthouse Beach,url="http://www.kovalam-beach.com" is the most popular of the three. Many hotels, restaurants, lodges and shops are located here.

HOW TO REACH??????????

Kovalam is located around 13 km from the Trivandrum city. Kovalam is well connected with transport busses and other public carriers. A taxi may charge about Rs 400 to 500 to get in kovalam from Trivandrum. In an auto rickshaw it may charge Rs 150 to Rs 180. Do to give rupees above Rs 180, if any doubt ask them to use meter. Meter charge in auto rickshaw  Rs 7 per kilometer and in taxi it is about Rs 9 per kilometer in non a/c and     Rs 11 per  kilometer in a/c taxis. If there is prepaid taxi or auto rickshaw counter make use of it,it will avoid you from the cheating. Prepaid counter is available in front of  central railway station. If you go to public busses it will get from Eastfort it is about 1 km from the Trivandrum central bus stand. A/C and non a/c buses are available from the Eastfort. If you choice is  a/c Volvo busses it charge Rs 24 and Rs 14.in ordinary it is only Rs 11.If you get down at kovalam junction you can catch the buses or the any other public carriers. The distance between the kovalam junction to kovalam beach is around 2 km.
Buses to Trivandrum can also be caught from Kovalum Junction as well as Ambassador taxis and Autos to pretty much anywhere.




Best time to visit: September to March, though it is an all-year-round
