Kovalam











                     Kovalam is famous tourist place in the India. Kovalam is a beach town on the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala. It is located around 13 km from the down town of Trivandrum. Kovalam is also known as “paradise of the south”.
                     Kovalam is extremely popular among westerners due to shallow waters and low tidal waves and ayurveda treatments. It is also one of the oldest tourist enclave in India, which known among tourist circuit right in 1930s.A massive rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing. The India Tourism Development Corporation had developed Kovalam as an integrated seaside resort which includes a string of cottages, the Halcyon castle, a shopping area, swimming pools, yoga centre, facilities for medicinal oil bath and massage and the Rajiv Gandhi Convention Centre with 1000 delegate capacity.

BEACHES

                         In kovalam there are about three beaches known in many names but often known as   Lighthouse Beach, Hawah Beach, Samudra Beach. Among this Lighthouse Beach is the one most popular, which is located at southernmost beach. The southernmost, known as the Lighthouse Beach,url="http://www.kovalam-beach.com" is the most popular of the three. Many hotels, restaurants, lodges and shops are located here.

HOW TO REACH??????????

Kovalam is located around 13 km from the Trivandrum city. Kovalam is well connected with transport busses and other public carriers. A taxi may charge about Rs 400 to 500 to get in kovalam from Trivandrum. In an auto rickshaw it may charge Rs 150 to Rs 180. Do to give rupees above Rs 180, if any doubt ask them to use meter. Meter charge in auto rickshaw  Rs 7 per kilometer and in taxi it is about Rs 9 per kilometer in non a/c and     Rs 11 per  kilometer in a/c taxis. If there is prepaid taxi or auto rickshaw counter make use of it,it will avoid you from the cheating. Prepaid counter is available in front of  central railway station. If you go to public busses it will get from Eastfort it is about 1 km from the Trivandrum central bus stand. A/C and non a/c buses are available from the Eastfort. If you choice is  a/c Volvo busses it charge Rs 24 and Rs 14.in ordinary it is only Rs 11.If you get down at kovalam junction you can catch the buses or the any other public carriers. The distance between the kovalam junction to kovalam beach is around 2 km.
Buses to Trivandrum can also be caught from Kovalum Junction as well as Ambassador taxis and Autos to pretty much anywhere.




Best time to visit: September to March, though it is an all-year-round

HOW TO REACH????????


BY AIR - Being the capital of Kerala state, Thiruvananthapuram is well connected to other major cities of India and the neighboring countries. Thiruvananthapuram has an Trivandrum international airport and domestic airport. The International terminal of the airport is approximately 5 kilometres and the domestic terminal is approximately 8kilometres  from the city.There are direct domestic  flights to kochi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi. Cities in the neighboring countries such as Colombo, Male, Singapore, and cities of Arabian Gulf are connected by the international airlines.their direct flight to almost gulf countries.

BY RAIL – Thiruvananthapuram comes under the southern railway zone. It one of the cheapest way of transport. Thiruvananthapuram is connected to other important cities of India and Kerala by trains. Regular trains are available for the states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu. For the tourists heading towards North India and Delhi, Himsagar Express is the perfect choice. The Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express connects the city to New Delhi, the capital of India.

BY ROAD – NH47 which passes through the city. All main city and town are connected with the state owned public transport buses KSRTC (Kerala state road transport cooperation). The central buses station is just opposite of central railway station. The minimum buses charge is Rs 5 in ordinary buses. There are also bus service operated by private operators and provides access within city limits and beyond. The central city bus terminal is located 1 km away at East Fort, near the Padmanabha Swamy temple.
